We have a European war going on right now with death and destruction on a terrible scale.
We’ve had these since the time of the Roman Empire, but this is one in real time with live video coverage. And it has some people we know in it…people we care about.
The modelling hobby and the kit trade will very soon latch onto this and produce goods for sale that are based on the war. People will build the individual models and eventually essay to incorporate figures and vehicles in dioramas. As it is, with both sides using material that is not only current, but the same things, it could be done using the kits that are in the shops now.
Should it be done? Search your own mind for that one. I’ve seen contemporary aircraft of both sides on display shelves at my club, some made since the start of hostilities. Ditto the armour…and there are builds that have been there for some time.
Will I make some of the aircraft? Probably not, with the possible exception of the dear old giant Antonov that got blown up in its hangar. It would have to be a different scale from my normal one because the sheer size of the finished thing would overwhelm my model room.
The whole affair is too raw and miserable to miniaturise yet.
