Before you think this has gotten political or I’ve lost my mind, let me assure you that there is a very good reason for painting the P-61 Black Widow white.
Before I go into that, notice how smooth the basic structure ( despite the rivets ) is. There was surprisingly little putty needed – or possible – on this model. I had envisaged vast troughs but they did not eventuate.

The working ailerons were fixed in place. They cannot have satisfied the play instincts of the 60’s junior builder as they are far too loose to pose properly. The horizontal stabiliser could have been drooped, but eventually I would have sickened of it. When in doubt – do it clean.
The attachment points for the bomb or tank pylons are a puzzle – the version I am building doesn’t use either form of ordnance and I the one reference photo shows nothing under the wing. I have half a mind to leave them blank until I find more information.

The White Mr. Surfacer is in preparation for Mr. Color 329 – FS 13538 Blue Angel Yellow. I found reference pictures for a P-61 as a water bomber in the US in the 1960’s. There are only two images so far but I also have a profile colour call-out for the specific plane.
