The acquisition of a Vultee Vanguard was one of those serendipitous moments – a stash was being thinned, the sales day was ending, the owner was marking things down, and I had $ 15 left.
Now the painful part – the decision whether to assign this one to the USAAF, the RCAF, or the Nationalist Chinese Air Force. They all had a go with them, though the Canadian episode was mainly trials as a training aircraft.
The Sword kit is early times short run stuff – brass, resin, vacform, and injection all in one kit. None of them frighten me that much now, though am still not 100% with PE brass. There is no box – the stash was packed in sealed plastic bags. But it’s all there plus a good sheet of decals and a workable instruction sheet.

There is flash, of course, and the occasional bleb – but for a chance to add a rarity to the collection, I can cope with these.

The Big Local Scale Model Exhibition was a very productive one for me – I lashed out on three new kits at bargain prices. One is spot-on for my IAF collection, one is pretty but weird, and one is this Vanguard. And I built another model while the expo was going on – so It was a successful year.
