The Little World

As odd as it may seem, there are people who consider it their duty to decide the amount of happiness allowed to others.

You might see them in schools, military units, and workplaces. They also exist in the scale modelling world. You may have met them.

You will certainly have if you paint your model grey or green…because it will not be the right shade of either hue. Unless you are prepared to use Anorak Green, you are going to be wrong.

You will also be wrong if you add die-cast models to your collection. Doubly so if you display them with pride to others. Treble the guilt if you do this at a scale model show. You will have stabbed at the hearts of the purists.

Yet consider: the die-cast model may be every bit as good as the kit-built variety, and a darn sight better than its owner could have done. And it has made many people happy; the workers who cast it, the shop that sold it, and the new owner who has displayed it.

Multi-win modelling. The only sad soul is the anorak who disapproves.
