In the case of this aircraft, it is going to go from an amphibian to a flying boat. The wheels are to be removed.
The landing gear boxes for the PBY 5 are cemented on all sides, but fortunately the ones on this kit had escaped some of the glue. A few strokes of the knife and they were released from the sides of the fuselage.
The filling work started with strips of Evergreen plastic cemented into the opening, then more strip added to the hollow trays this created. Final addition was home-made sprue goo to slightly over-fill the void. Then we’ll need some smoothing down and re-riveting.


The rear compartment was too firmly fastened to allow removal, so it had to be accepted for what it was.

The .50’s were sawed off and the spares box was ransacked for twin .30’s to mount there. The cockpit and rear compartment were re-sprayed with RAF Cockpit Green as it was likely that Boeing in Canada were working to an RAF order when they built the ship.
