Academy SPAD XIII – Part Two – Ick…

Perhaps I am getting too fussy – or watching too many YouTube speakers complaining about sink holes and ejector pin marks. I am starting to see them more and more.

Of course some kits make them more obvious than others – the Academy SPAD XIII being one of them. Note the pink spots of sprue-goo in the heading image. Each one of them an ejector pin defect, and each one smack in the middle of wing or tailplane ribs.

They will yield to file and the sandpaper, of course – and the cost of repair is nothing in monetary terms – but they take time and disrupt the flow.

As it is, a few hours has gotten to this point – and tomorrow will see undercoating and colour coats. The decals have been located in the spares box, and the little SPAD will fly to completion in three days or so. A dedicated person could make a weekend of it. It is good therapy after a week of holiday hurrying and will clean the palate for a more complex build later in the month.
