Shinden – Part Two – Future Fighter

I am immensely impressed by this 1:48 scale Hasegawa model. It seems to have everything you’d want in a different adventure.

The plastic is Hasegawa – brittle – and that frightens you when you imagine the amount of sanding that will be required…but then the parts dry-snap into each other and there is really no fettling to do. Of course there are locating pins, but at least these seem to be in the right places and are not just sink-holes.

The cockpit is detailed enough for me though you can see where the super-detailers will be stringing wires and weathering everything inside there. I always settle for a little dry-brushed silver and then oil washes. There are no seatbelts, but there will be…

The most impressive fit is in the vertical tail fins. These slot into curved recesses and they go so well that all you need is a little thin cement to finish off. I am into 50/50 half thin and half medium as a structural choice, though the paucity of supplies mean I’ll use nearly anything to stick kits together.

An overnight to harden, then seams smoothed, and it’ll be undercoated. Nearly time to start printing decals.
