Other people have stashes – I have a shelf of ponder. Every model kit that sits there has some thought attached to it.
In some cases the thought is ” what in the hell do I do with this? “. These are the model kits that someone has donated to me. I am delighted to receive them, but as they may be wildly different from those that I normally work with, they need some consideration.
There are a number of ducks to be set in a row:
a. What scale is it? If it is out of my normal run – 1/72 to 1/76 – why do I have it?
b. What do I do with it? Build it, is the obvious thing, but would it be better sold or given away? Not really – I am the kit whisperer and I deal with challenges.
c. If it is an out of the ordinary scale, how will it be displayed? My normal aircraft and vehicles live in little dioramas or large scale airfields. Other scales have other needs.
d. Are there to be any more in this scale? If it is a box-scale retro classic, do I even need to consider stable-mates for it?
e. What new conventions are needed for the scale?
More on these in coming posts.
