To Paint Or Not To Paint

That is the question.

Whether ’tis nobler to coat the photo etched brass parts of your kit with the same paint as the injected plastic ones and let them sink into oblivion or to leave them unpainted and declare your skill and investment to the world.

For those of my clubmates who might feel I am picking on them, I apologise. I do have my opinions but recognise that others do so too. And if it is their model, their aesthetic vision prevails.

I do not do a lot of PE brass on my models. It is not my favourite material or activity. However, I recognise that it is a better way to reproduce some structures than resin or styrene. It does have a place on the workbench. However, I have always felt that after it is part of the model, it needs to blend in. Thus I paint, rather than polish.

The parts need careful priming – there are specific metal undercoats that will allow colour coats to adhere well. You must not clog details with heavy layers. Your care will be rewarded.
