Eventually The Kit Will Be Finished

Or the Earth will spiral into the sun. Either way, there will be an end to it.

Some builds seem to take forever. You start out looking forward to a few weeks of building and eventually it becomes a few months. If the calendar stretches to an extra year, you know you have a special build, and once people start pointing you out on the street and shaking their heads, you know you have gone out past where the scale model buses run.

It may not be your fault. If the kit promised a railway porter’s trolley you probably thought of it in terms of a couple of hours. If it had 150 photo-etched brass parts you may have revised your estimation. Your main mistake was not to read the fine print on the box art – that and not noticing that the kit weighed 3 kilograms…

The thing to do is not to become discouraged. Divide the work into easily managed portions, and even if these involve three days each, just keep building.

Eventually you’ll have an award-winning porter’s trolley for your layout and be really, really good at bending brass.
