Fairey Battle Mk I – Part Three – Got It Taped

I have been trying a new procedure in my aircraft builds; dry-taping.

It is at the dry-fit stage and allows me to build up a phantom of the cemented assembly and add more parts to it. I can catch cockpits wedging the fuselage sides apart before committing to them – it is hard enough sanding the tubs and inside the fuselage as it is.

It will also let you see if the wings are going to be anywhere near a decent fit, and to try the tail fins to see if they are going to be straight. Of course these butt-fit jobs are always an iffy proposition. It pays to drill and pin them with at least one metal support before you commit to cement.

Note the Prague comedians instructed us to cement the landing gear into the wing before the top and bottom layers were joined. As I do not speak Czech, I could ignore them.
