ME 262 – Part Four – A New Name

A new name for a new country – this has now become an Avia S92 Turbina…and has ended its days in a Prague air museum.

Not a bad fate for an airframe that was on the cutting edge of technology at the time. The remaining stocks of the Me 262 that German war production had shifted to Czechoslovakia were kept there and turned over to the Czechs by the Soviets – presumably they had their own designs in the pipeline.

Like the ME 109, the 262 became an Avia product and could be used for national defence or sold away for foreign exchange. The 109’s went on to Israel and helped found the country – the S92’s stayed in Europe.

The museum example has the gun ports blocked off but everything else seems to be pretty much as per the kit. It is shiny, so I have left the Revell kit in the same condition.

The decals are leftovers from a Czech kit and went on wonderfully – but you need to be careful of Czech air force insignia. The blue always points forward, but the red and white are handed;

On wings the red is closest to the fuselage and on fuselages or fins, the red is at the bottom. The decal makers provide them differently for each side of the aircraft.
