Sadly, scale models do not often last…they may be gone when their builder goes. Few people appreciate the hobby enough to keep all of a collection.
Of course this doesn’t include historic models such as those found in Greenwich Maritime Museum or other institutions. But plastic models in a lounge room? Little chance.
Before this happens, take good pictures of them, print or store the pictures, and adequately identify those images. It is not hard with modern cameras or phones, and the storage space needed is minimal. If you are fortunate enough to be able to keep the kit art as well, this becomes valuable ephemera for the future. At least photograph the box lid and the colour call-out.
You don’t have to record every pair of socks or underwear you go through in a year, but do document some parts of your life. You’ll be glad later.
