Includes the opportunity to achieve great things. And to fall down holes.
If you can do this cheaply you are all the better. I use the opportunity provided by donated model kits to try out fresh ideas. Being honest, some of them are thrust upon me by the nature of the kits – and they are not all good ideas, either…
Some freebies are pristine – kits that have been bequeathed and may be in perfect condition. They should be built as they were intended…as long as the decals have stayed workable.
Some are part-works. The donor has started them and given up interest. If this is early in the piece there may be a good chance of taking command of the build. If it is almost all cemented together you are at the mercy of the skills of someone else.
Some kits have parts missing or broken. Here you are in command of a damage-control party as you survey the wreck. Do not be discouraged, but be honest with yourself – if it has no tail surfaces and isn’t made by Northrup, can you really scratch up a convincing replacement? Or is it a box of spare parts for other projects?
The freebie is something in which you have limited choices. It will require you to build to someone else’s orders. Open your mind to the adventure.
You are allowed bad language.
