Not those of others.
You’re on this earth for a limited amount of time, and if you are reading this, you’ve used up a lot of it. Strive to make the most of the rest by doing what you want to do, in your own way. As long as it is legal and moral – and most scale modelling is – you are doing the right thing.
Occasionally the makers of scale kits will fall right in line with you. It is rare, but sometimes they will kit a model that is exactly what you want to build. The make, the model, the colour scheme – the decal sheet, even. Accept the gift, buy it, and build it. Pray that it comes up to your glowing expectations.
Other times, the makers will mould something that is almost what you want. Here is the point where you step in and make the changes. Research the appearance, decals, and load-out and start scheming how you can convert the kit to your needs.
Do not, whatever you do, buy something that you do not want to build. This may occur when you drift into a hobby shop and just have to spend money as retail therapy. You buy a shelf queen kit that you do not want and will never build. Sometimes it is a kit that no-one will ever want to build, and you either save it for 70 years in the hope that it becomes an icon, or throw it in the bin tomorrow. Either way, you have wasted an opportunity.
