If It Is Not A Pleasure…

Does it need to be a pain?

I am brought to this question by the effort of completing a 1/400 scale model of a very small naval vessel. It is well moulded. It is presumably accurate. It may be relevant, but then the well-mannered never mention the relevant in the room…

It is not excruciating, but equally – it is not inspiring. When it is done, I will be as well. It will be written up and that will be the end. Another person might regard it as the best thing since sliced bread, but I prefer Baker’s Delight…

We have all been there, or will be eventually; a kit that we complete out of a sense of duty. Or a sense of gratitude. Or just out of our senses…

Rejoice. Learn. Do not give in to the temptation again. Leave it on the hobby shop shelf for someone who will love it. Be assured that someone will, and when they do, they’ll make a far better fist of it than you. Applaud them as you rush for the exit.

One response to “If It Is Not A Pleasure…”

  1. We always say… Why did I buy it?
