We all know a hobby shop that is expensive to go to – because we spent more than we should have last time we visited.
But was it really that bad? Or were we the authors of our own discomfort?
Did we go in for a new bottle of black paint and come out with a 1:200 battleship? Did we decide to get after-market chrome wheel nuts for our Messerschmitt? Did we need that foam R/C park flier?
Do not castigate the owner of the shop for the decisions we make. He has his own interests to look out for, and they require him to sell for a price higher than he buys. Common sense tells him this and it’s re-enforced by council demands for rates, electricity bills, and wage sheets.
Will his price match that of the garage seller whose brother-in-law gets a pallet of kits in from Hong Kong? No. His shop is in this country and deals with a lot more commercial law and expense than HK. Occasionally the price he buys for means he can approach the garage, but there are other people in the commercial chain.
Reflect - would you accept HK wages and conditions here to save on the price of plastic kits? Would you work under those conditions?
