Whether it’s a Crown and Anchor wheel or one they break criminals on is up to you.
Sometimes it is up to the makers of the kits – but even the best kit can be spoiled and the worst made magnificently. As you are the one doing the work, you need to be the factor that makes the difference.
Apply yourself or slack off – do the hard work early on or just bite the parts off the sprue trees. Paint with care or paint with careless – it’s up to you. The finished product will attract the detractors anyway – that is the only constant in scale model building. But you will be first amongst them if you know you have not done your best.
Of course your best may not make a dud of a re-box look like a modern masterpiece. You can polish a turd but you still have to hold it by one end while you do. You need to adjust your expectations before you start. If you keep them low, while punching above your weight, you may be in for a pleasant surprise.
