JAS 39 Gripen – Part Two – Loaded For Bear

Quite literally – whether on the ground, in the air, or on the sea.

This Gripen is painted as a demonstrator model for an air show – no unit mark, no wear and tear, but a full load of missiles, tanks, and a designator pod.

With a load-out this intense, I think its greatest feat would be the ability to rise off a runway and turn deliberately. The pilot would be anxious to destroy something – anything – just to get some weight off the wings.

Full marks to Italeri for the quality of the kit – the moulding was flawless with no filler needed. There is nose weight, of course, but that goes with any modern tricycle gear. The canopy is a superb fit and clear as a bell even without dipping.

I hope this company will produce a Viggen and I am looking out for an Lansen and a Draken from older sources to give me a credible Swedish fighter contingent. If SAAB manages to sell some of these to the RCAF I will be rebuilding it with pride.
