Pilatus PC-21 – Part Two – My Faith Rewarded

Remember I said I was confident in the new Swiss kit? Well, it is getting better.

A dry-fit stage is not a perfect thing – you can miss slightly less obvious gaps and misalignment…only to have them show up and bite at cement time. However this time it looks as if the cockpit tub fits perfectly first time and hangs from two brackets on the fuselage wall.

Not only hangs but slots into the second side perfectly. no gaps whatsoever and no flash, either. The cockpit is so wide open that the seats and instrument panels do not have to be cemented at this stage. When it comes to the external painting, this means the cockpit can be masked off very easily with a piece of card and some Liqui-tape. No complex digging out and touching up needed.

The Swiss plastic is very hard – almost like the old Hasegawa material. Most gate-trimming is best done with a sanding stick. I would be curious to see one of the new powered sanders at work on it.
