The Compulsory Stash

Being tied to a plastic sprue tree…

We sometimes encounter stashes that have gone from small to sensible to moderate to toxic. There is no actual number, but when the available storage space is exceeded and the floor starts being crowded out, you know that something is amiss.

This is also the case for commercial stashing with the view to on-selling. Space is money, and if you overspend on stock you overspend on storage…even before the stuff is delivered.

However, do not judge the stasher harshly – they may seem weak, foolish, and greedy, but they may also have a real mental illness. The urge to hoard is widely seen in certain cases. There are television specials about it and I daresay textbooks have been written.

Is is something that people recover from? Possibly, if there is external help. Also if life circumstances demand it, nearly anyone can relinquish a stash. The sad thing is that the material may just transfer to another susceptible person and the pattern is repeated.

If you are in anything like this position, consider divesting some small portion. You may have to lose money to do so, but you gain freedom from concern. The main thing is not to re-invest the money you get in more kits.
