As soon as you get your first Airfix Starter Kit you are assailed by two desires: that of building it and buying another. Both of these are legitimate and in time you can succeed. However, as you do the urges mount, the pressure increases, and the pace quickens.

Soon there is need for a third kit to be kept in waiting until the second one is done. Gradually your acquisition overtakes your assembly and you have a stash. As it grows the balance changes – eventually the stash has you. You’re the willing servant who buys, shelves, dusts, and drools.

Along the way you start to take advice from strangers about the merits of the kits. The Revagram one is not as good as the Infinite Hobby and vice versa. You start to fall for the sort of guff that you’d reject in a public bar. Other people are spending your money for the benefit of the factories.
