Do Not Marry A Hobbyist

Advice for everyone – not restricted to age or gender.

If you are about to marry a hobbyist, pause and look around – around their house or room or desk. Is there open space or is every surface covered by ” something in progress:? Be aware that if this is the case, nothing may be in progress, and will continue doing so for the next three decades.

Ask how much money is spent on the hobby each year. Treble this figure ( for the truth ) and compare it to the prospective spouse’s income. If there is any left over you may be able to eke groceries out of it. Unless new kits are announced.

You might come to dread the toy and hobby fairs.

I’ll amend that; you WILL come to dread them, as you’ll be going to them regularly, and none of these visits will be short or cheap.

The only sure defence is a vigorous offence; develop a hobby of your own. Demand your right to the workbench and the wallet. Remember that there is only one clear winner at the Battle Of Hobbygrad…
