Short Skyvan – Part Three – Once Seen…

Never forgotten – provided you photograph it.

The inclusion of detailed interiors in scale models is not new – this Short Skyvan kit had a full set of seats for Olympic Airways passengers in the 70’s and benches for Austrian skydivers in the 2020’s.

When my example served as an arctic transport in the 60’s and 70’s it was hauling people and freight. They took out the rear luggage partition, moved some of the seats to the port side, and left the starboard clear for boxes and machine parts. And pet walruses. They are keen on walruses in the arctic. Sort of tusked emotional support animals…

Fortunately a photographer named Murray Lundberg shot the interior of the aircraft from the open rear ramp and captured the scene perfectly. I owe Murray a drink – his image let me make the model more accurately. I still need to locate a small walrus but that is what toy shops are for…Or a model of Murray Lundberg…

Many thanks to all the photographers who go beyond the one-shot and detail the insides, wheel wells, cockpit, and open hatches. You make our hobby.
