Are your models good enough?
Are you good enough? Have you had your daily hour of anxiety?
We are constantly being told to stop stressing ourselves – advice that can really depress you. You no sooner sit down and let your jaw muscles sag than someone is leaping at you with a pill or a sermon. Be happy and relaxed or feel the consequences.
It can be the same in scale modelling. There are no end of benchmarks presented to us in magazines and on the internet to which we can compare ourselves and feel bad. Indeed, if we do not have the latest offering plus the aftermarket we are made to feel naked and inadequate. Not fun in cold weather.
Buying the latest will alleviate this until newer latests come onto the market. Then we start again. This is the principle of the white goods and motor trade as well.
Far better to set a standard for yourself and stick to achieving that. It need not be museum-quality in every aspect, but one thing on the model should be the very best you can do. Whatever it is, it will reassure you when the nay-sayers bray.
When you have mastered that one aspect, keep to it and add another aspiration.
