Sopwith Pup – Part Two – Bits And Pieces

It took me a long time to realise that you get further if you go slower.

Specifically, you get a better paint job if you can do all the pieces separately. This is most easily done with biplanes and other early fliers ; their joints are natural divisions for paint colour. Nothing is faired into anything else.

Even when you need to mask between two colours, there are few compound curves to fight against.

Note the latest in a long line of paint assistants: the three -legged jig.

The legs are made of cocktail sticks with double sided tape curled round the top. They poke into an old block of foam. The sticks are just adherent enough to stop the aircraft from blowing off when the airbrush stream hits it.

There is better circulation of overspray and things do not stick to the paper towel underneath.
