Republic Thunderflash – Part Three – The Czechpit

A czechpit is similar to a cockpit except it doesn’t fit. This is not surprising – after all you would hardly expect a cockpit tub from a Republic RF-84 to fit – say – a Boeing 747. Or a Stinson Reliant. Or a Spitfire Mk XIV. You would, however, think it would fit a Republic RF-84…

I’ll be fair – it does go between the fuselage halves and all, but it has such poor locating ledges that you might as well put it in by guess and by gosh.

The other notable feature of the RF-84 is the cameras – that’s the numbered boxes you see in the heading image. They were painted up and cemented in just as the instructions said. Then they were prised loose and re-cemented in the correct position as dictated by the structure of the aircraft. Always read the instructions carefully and then do what you think is best.

I will pay Sword the complement of thanking them for an extra ejection seat – there were two resin examples in the kit. Given the fact that some of the older kits that show up here have little or no detail in their cockpits, this accessory will not go astray.
