The advent of the multi-build kit these days is both a boon and a curse – particularly if you are a fussy sort of modeller who wants to get the thing just right – the particular mark or serial number.
The maker may have given you just the pieces to do it with, but they will also have given you pieces not to do it with – the off-cuts, as it were. The instruction sheet probably has a parts diagram and if you’re lucky the bits you don’t use are greyed out.
That has not stopped me in the past from looking at an instruction booklet and mistakenly cutting off and using the wrong parts. – so this time I’ve decided to do something about it. I’m not going to discard the bits straight away – you never can tell when they might come to the rescue. But I’m going to mark them clearly on the sprue trees in an effort to warn myself off.
I noted as well that there is a duplication of brass parts in injected plastic – the kit makers realising that PE is not a selling point to some of us. I shall unhesitatingly choose plastic.
