Italeri F/A 18 Hornet – Part One – Who Actually Makes This Thing?

I was nearly going to write ” McDonnell Douglas ” in the title until I saw it was claimed to be a licensed product from Boeing.

Whether this means Boeing have bought out McDonnell Douglas, or just the company that makes the cardboard box, is unsure. The kit comes from Italeri, so I’ll go with that until the end when I can decal it and assign it to an air force.

I don’t hate commercial mergers, but I do find them confusing. I mourn the loss of old railroad ads and old car brands.

The kit is fine. I can see some lines are raised and some sunk, but no potholes and very little flash. The clear parts are. The weapons load-out is extensive. The instructions are direct and the decals superb. The price is average for this sort of aircraft and there is a fine colour call-out on the back of the box. This is value.

But what an embarrassment of opportunity. I like Western air forces as opposed to Eastern ones, and this kit could serve for Finland, Canada, Switzerland, as well as the US. I will dedicate this first build to the Finns at PERKKELE Air Force Base as I have a big jar of artificial snow and some pine trees to use up.
