Republic P-47D – Part One – Show Surprise

I was astounded when presented with this Hasegawa P-47 at our recent scale model show.

It was not a prize for competition – just a kind gift from an official. I hope the end result will adequately express my gratitude.

There are several other P-47’s in the collection in USAAF markings so this time I shall seek a different air force. Most of the skill will be in the finish as the Hasegawa moulding is so precise as to remove most of the hard work. Certainly I cannot see any need for filler and very little for scraping or sanding on the basic parts.

I also noted that Hasegawa has been very clever in moulding the wing stores pylons. They are a thick profile and another maker might have just sought to flood the space with styrene – risking sink marks. Here they are hollow and have formed perfectly.

The other thing that is perfect is the weather for spray painting. Good humidity and temperature so the Mr. Color 208 Duraluminium has gone on very smoothly indeed.
