Whenever someone tells you a kit is unbuildable, doubt them.
Ditto when they tell you it is the best thing since sliced styrene. People’s opinions quickly convert to folklore and just as rapidly to gospel truth. There are scale model flat earths all about us.
A case in point was given to me by a person who had heard all the disparaging remarks about it, and was loath to start building. I am never adverse to a freebie, and can see the kernel of good in the husk of flash and sinkholes.
The kit was over-riveted, to be sure. The days of the boiler plate rivet on the aircraft surface were in our youth. Yet, all we need do is take the worst of the bumps down with wet-and-dry and we have a good model underneath. Careful attention to progressive cementing meant it ended up straight, and the lack of interior detail was fine with a. closed-up build.
And there we were – model I’d always wanted for free and the pleasure of beating the popular odds. Bring on the next ugly duckling!
