Tupolev Tu-2 -Part Two – The Modern Mould

Whoever makes the plans, designs, and moulds for Hobby Boss is brilliant.

The kits they have put on the shelf can be simple or complex, but even in the case of the less expensive ones there is a sense of purpose and level of finish that many other makers could well copy.

The fact that the fuselage press-fits nearly perfectly has been mentioned before. The additional delight of finding the gear doors moulded integrally with the nacelles is a real bonus.

The unspoken question that hangs over the workbench is why do the other makers not follow this lead and turn out simpler but more complete kits. They are well worth buying when found.

  1. I find Hobby Boss perfect for when you just want to get to the paintng stage, that is, if I have a subject that has a cool camouflage pattern, or a painting scheme like the American inter-war colors markings. Otherwise, it’s really about the build process – like an early war German tank, there’s only so much you can do with all Panzer grey.
But the few HB kits I have done were always a joy.

    1. I do agree. Other times you may wish to scratch=build the coffee cups on the navigator’s table, but HB provides a quick boost to the workbench.
