YF23 – Part Three – Trial Duo

Well, it didn’t get the contract.

Despite the design and the twin engines of this McDonell Douglas/Northrop, the ultimate choice for the air superiority fighter went to the YF – later – F-22. The two test aircraft were relegated to museum pieces.

I suspect that this Trumpeter lkit – a 1999 product – was drawn up influenced by an earlier 1995 Revell kit. I say influenced – I don’t know how accurate either iteration was but smart money says that they probably were drawn from plans that were only released later on.

Who cares? Both planes look good, and the fact that there were not enough decals to properly mark the underside of the tail is irrelevant. I plastered the ones they gave me on and was grateful for the chance.

The stand is a double to replicate a picture seen on the net. The 144 shelf is growing monthly!
